Frequently Asked Questions

How do I begin driving lessons?
First of all, you must be 17 years of age and have a provisional driving license. If you don’t currently have a provisional license, the easiest way to apply for one is by going to any post office and asking for a D1 application form. Once filled out and posted it can take up to 6 weeks before it comes through, so make sure to have your driving license before you book any lessons.

How do I book a Theory Driving Test?
Before you can take your driving test you must first pass a theory test. This is a test conduted on the computer and will take up to 1 hour to complete. There are two sections to a theory test, the multiple choice questions and the hazard perception. Both parts will be done together one after the other.

To book your theory test you can either visit www.direct.gov.uk/drivingtest/ or call 03002001122. You’ll need to have a credit or debit card to hand. Please note you will need both parts of your provisional driving license and bring them with you to the examination.

The best chance of passing the test is to prepare for it by studying. You can purchase PC Programs which have mock exams on them and you can also buy books and literature.

Practical Driving Test
In the same way as the theory driving test you can also book your practical driving test, by phone or via the internet. You must agree the date with your driving instructor before you book, as we would only recommend putting you through for your test when we feel you are ready.
